Food and running with friends

FOOD -
I have been making a lot of yummy open faced sandwiches lately.  I use my grocery bakery's multi-grain panini bread and toast it.  Then most time I will smash about a half or 1/4 of an avocado on top...then I like to add different things on to that.  One day it was strawberries, goat cheese and arugula! Sooo tasty.

Another day I do what a call and "pan scramble" and just crack an egg into an already hot pan and scramble with a fork as it cooks. This time I sauteed some baby spinach first then cracked the egg in and scrambled it all together.  Topped with a really juicy farmer's market tomato.  These things are awesome.

Speaking of Farmer's Markets.....the running group I am a part of likes to meet there for a group run on Saturday mornings and then, those of us who want to, shop the market afterwards.  My boys love it because I bring them back a ginormous cinnamon roll for breakfast. This time of  year the tomatoes are so perfect and delicious. I should have bought more than two!  Anyway, running with friends before these Farmer's market sprees has become something I really look forward to throughout the summer and beginning of the fall months.  The trail that we run there is very shady so it allows an otherwise uncomfortably hot day to be somewhat bearable.  I love my running friends!

This weekend, we have planned a group run in DC.  Although we have to get up early to beat the crowds, it is so worth it to be able to run the monuments and chat with friends.  We have a blast!

Ragnar Richmond Recap!

First Ragnar Trail relay is in the books and boy, was it an adventure!  Notice I said, "first"...I had originally thought I was "one and done" with these things (as I am with the full marathon) however, I think I could enjoy another go of one. Definitely a fan of the trail version and not interested in a road Ragnar though (the thought of sleeping in a van horrifies me more than camping!).  I think I need to wait til 2019 (or even 2020 ) though - not ready to train for another in 2018!  Gotta let the paint dry on this one...So, here's a detailed recap of our adventure: Proof that I CAN camp! Thursday 3pm-ish : 4 of us drove down to Richmond with all of the camping gear in order to set up our site and get checked in.  This was a great plan because we were able to scout out a site and set up before the rest of the team arrived the following morning. Our start time was one of the earlier times on Friday (10am) so we didn't want to be worried about s

Light me up!

Good morning and welcome to winter in northern VA.  We are on our 3rd snow day here (as in school's cancelled) and I am trying to make the best of it.  I did a long yoga practice (as my IT band is raging today and needed to stretch badly), ran errands this morning (before the so-called icy rain is supposed to arrive) and put the boys to work with homework and vacuuming.  Now to update the Blog and get some research done on the Ragnar race.  I hope to get in our times (we are not fast!) and figure the whole rotation out. I really need the help of someone who has done this before (preferably a former captain) so that I can have us well-prepared. Hit me up if you can help! For Christmas I asked for (and recieved!) lots of cool running gear.  I have yet to use the three types of lights I got.  The Nathan Headlamp is on sale at Rei.  I did take it out of the box and charge it (as it does not come charged but is a rechargable device simlar to my Garmin Vivofit watch).  I put it on and

Stop Wishing and Start Working!

This past month has been really incredible for me!  I have gained a new perspective on my life through helping others as a fitness coach in addition to my job as director at a preschool.  Although I'm still figuring out the proper balance between the two it has really been a seamless transition into coaching while keeping the rest of my life together.  I think it's because the "business" of coaching is not like a job to me. I enjoy being fit and am proof of the results so have found it's so fun to share that with others to get them started on their own journey. Singing with the preschoolers is one of the highlights of my week as director ! Never thought I would have a 6 pack!! On a fitness level, I am almost done with my 8 week program of LIIFT4 and at the end of week 7 I am 3 lbs down and have more muscle tone (especially in my upper body!) than ever before!  This makes me down a total of 11lbs since the beginning of summer when I started the 80
