Summer + Dress = Instant Outfit!

You guys....How is it almost July!?  The fact that my kids have just finished school makes the summer feel like it is flying by.  I have been wearing a lot of dresses this summer because they are so easy. And to quote my youngest son, "Mom, I just realized, you have a LOT of dresses!"  Yep...and shoes, and clothes in general.  It's a problem.  Anyway,  I have a LOT of summer dresses and I am dedicating this post to them!  I just love that you have one piece of clothing and just throw it on with some cute sandals for an instant outfit.    A recent purchase that I bought from one of my favorite althetic-wear sites, title nine  is this cute dress pictured below.  It is called the Shready Dress  .  It is actually made by Patagonia and organic cotton with a hint of stretch. I ordered an extra small and the fit is perfect.  (It has a built in bra but I still wear a strapless with it cause...ya know.)  I really want it in the other color but they are out of my size. Another plu

Summertime...what's bloomin'!?

Hey all!  It's been a busy time here for us.  The boys have one more week of school (yes, they are still in school up here in northern VA)!  With that we have been busy cleaning out rooms, throwing away, donating and reorganizing.  Our oldest will be a freshman in high school and his room needed a revamp.  It is still a work in progress but looking more teen by the minute! This week I wanted to post some favorites that I've been wearing as well as share some of what's blooming in my backyard right now. First up...loving this shade of blue-ish green for my nails (and have been getting numerous compliments from cashiers in the check-out line 😉  ) It is an OPI gel polish called "Suzi without a paddle".   Kind of a "Tiffany" blue...And, bonus, it matches my favorite coffee mug! Also shown in the picture is another top I am loving from JCrew Factory .  You'll recall I have the same one in pink. I loved it so much I purchased in this ecru color

Antiques and Hydrangreas

Last week I went to lunch with some work friends and we hit up some Antique stores in Lucketts (Leesburg, VA) .  I found an adorable white vase that is like 4 little jugs connected together. Probably not a true antique but looks old because of the way they have treated the enamel.  It is perfect for the mantle because it is long and narrow.  Currently I have tiny pink roses in it.  Also, I found some old (and I think these are truly old) candle sticks that have been made from old spindles.  These look great on my mantle as well.  In my front room, we like to call it the music room, since there is a piano in there and the boys both practice their stringed instruments in there, I have lots of old photos and furniture, so it really goes well in there.   My hydrandgeas are finally starting to bloom.  I wasn't sure how they were going to do this year.  They did okay last year but some years they have not bloomed at ALL!  The first year we were in this house they were great. I do

Dress round-up

Although my kids still have 2 more weeks of school, for me the summer has begun!  It has been a full month and a half of partying so far.  Celebrating the end of the school year...then my bosses retirement and my subsequent promotion to director, and then most recently, my husbands graduation from grad school. It has been a busy but fun time!  Thought I would share some of my outfits from those events... First up - retirement party dress. This was a backyard luncheon type deal. I have this dress from Athleta that I bought last summer and had only worn once. It is purple, which just happens to be the guest of honor's favorite color, so I had the perfect opportunity to wear it. It is knit and pretty form fitting but has very flattering ruching on the sides and a built in bra.  (I actually also wear a strapless bra with it.)  It also has a two layer wrap front which is really cute.  This exact dress seems to be no longer available but I will link some similar styles... here  and
