Stop Wishing and Start Working!

Brand New!

It has been so long since I've posted on my blog that I hardly even know where to begin. First of all - Summertime Shape up - which was my last post here, was way more than that!  I finished my 80 day Obsession last week and have to say that I feel completely transformed. It has not only changed my body composition from flabby to firm, but also I have entirely new outlook and mindset when it comes to my nutrition. For YEARS I have been running and exercising until the cows come home and have been in a plateau as far as my weight and mentality are concerned.  I started out this summer by going ALL IN on this Beachbody program, 80 Day Obsession. And by "all in" I mean, not just doing the exercise portion (which is what I have done in the past when doing these programs) but also drinking Shakeology each day, and using the colored portion containers religiously.  I was determined to make a change because what I had been doing was not working!  You cannot just work out

Summertime Shape Up!

Good afternoon! One would think that summer would be the time I am more apt to post on my blog - but alas, that has not been that case yet. I have been just as busy if not more with my job and also a few other things added to my schedule.  One of the things I've started in the last 2 weeks is a Beachbody workout program called the 80 DAY OBSESSION on Beachbody On Demand .  It is not only an awesome 80 day workout regime but also there is a timed and portion controlled way of eating that goes along with it. As part of the eating plan I am drinking Shakeology each day (flavor of choice - Cafe Latte).   In addition, I am training for my next (my 11th) Half Marathon which happens at the end of July.  Because of this new regimen I am doing, I will actually be taking longer to complete the 80 day plan since some of my workouts will consist of a run in place of the workout planned and I still need to have (at least) one day of rest per week.  So far I am 9 workouts in and about 2 week

Ragnar Richmond Recap!

First Ragnar Trail relay is in the books and boy, was it an adventure!  Notice I said, "first"...I had originally thought I was "one and done" with these things (as I am with the full marathon) however, I think I could enjoy another go of one. Definitely a fan of the trail version and not interested in a road Ragnar though (the thought of sleeping in a van horrifies me more than camping!).  I think I need to wait til 2019 (or even 2020 ) though - not ready to train for another in 2018!  Gotta let the paint dry on this one...So, here's a detailed recap of our adventure: Proof that I CAN camp! Thursday 3pm-ish : 4 of us drove down to Richmond with all of the camping gear in order to set up our site and get checked in.  This was a great plan because we were able to scout out a site and set up before the rest of the team arrived the following morning. Our start time was one of the earlier times on Friday (10am) so we didn't want to be worried about s

Half Crazy and Countdown to Ragnar

Last weekend I completed my 10th Half Marathon.  It was the Trap Pond Half in Delaware.  Several friends ran it and 2 of my friends ran the 50K in honor of their 50th birthdays. Such a fun weekend with friends. My husband was there as well and was supposed to run the half (his first) with me but ended up injuring his foot playing basketball so was not able to race, which was a little dissapointing.  My friend Janet and I ran most of the race together (seen in pic above) and it was a flat, beautiful course. I should not have worn my trail shoes as they ended up giving me blisters and were not neccessary for this easy terrain.  I felt good until about the last 5k when the blisters started to bother me and I was just tired.  Doing 3 half marathons in such close succession I think was more of a challenge than I thought it would be.   It was a fun weekend though! Now on to concentrating on the Ragnar Richmond Trail race...less than 2 weeks away!  Unfortunately, on Tuesday after the l

Half marathon madness!

2018 has started off with quite the whirlwind of races for me!  Within the last two weeks I completed two half marathons.  The Gasparilla Distance Classic Half was first and then yesterday, the RocknRoll DC Half.  The first was a challenge, as I knew it would be, because of the heat and humidity.  Humidity is always a struggle for me and I do not train for longer races in summer becuase of it.  Having trained for this half in cooler temps of Northern VA did not prepare me for the toll it would take on me.  However, I was prepared mentally and that was so helpful. I started out with the 2:20 pace group and lasted about 6 miles with them.  When the sun came out and it became a struggle for me to keep up with them, I slowed my pace and decided to just "embrace the suck" and have fun with it. I cranked up my iPod and made my way down Bayshore taking in the beauty of the place I used to live when I was single and teaching elementary music. (Each water stop I dumped cups of water

Full speed ahead...

In less than a week I will be flying back to my home town to do the Gasparilla Half marathon.  When I signed up for it, I wasn't really thinking about the significance of it but now that it is nearing, it has hit me.  When I was 25 years old I completed my first 5K race - the Gasaparilla 5K!  At the time I was living in a tiny, old one bedroom apartment, just off Bayshore (where the race takes place) and was runing fairly regularly each morning.  It would have never  occurred to me that, 23 years later I would be doing a half marathon there!  This will be my 8th (I think?) Half marathon.  The old me would have thought I was crazy if I had told her that I'd be doing all of these race! Cray. Training is going well for the Ragnar and I am doing some more of the planning for it.  I need to get the shirts ordered. I want to have some special ones made for our team.  Been working on a logo for it, but need to finalize and figure out where to get them made.  We have decided we
